Managing the business of advice

As independent financial advisors, we are not only guiding clients—we are also running a business. This requires both strict adherence to evolving regulations and a clear strategy for our eventual exit.

Join us for our upcoming May session, where we will address two critical components of practice management: mandatory data compliance and maximising the sale value of a business.

Part 1: The strict realities of PAIA and POPIA
Compliance with the Information Regulator is no longer optional; it has been a legal necessity since 2021. Deryck Lottering will join us to unpack the immediate risks of non-compliance.

Crucially, the Information Regulator has partnered with the CIPC. If your entity (whether a registered company, trust, or sole proprietorship) is not compliant, you may be restricted from performing essential transactions, such as filing your Annual Returns. Deryck will explain how to navigate these requirements and protect your practice from penalties and reputational damage.

Part 2: Engineering your growth-to-exit journey
In the second half of the session, Rick Grantham will introduce Deal Leaders International (DLI).

Whether you are looking ahead to your own succession planning or advising clients with businesses generating R20 million to R300 million in EBITDA, executing a clean and highly profitable exit requires specialised strategy. Rick will share how DLI partners with business owners to reduce execution risk, navigate due diligence, and attract the right buyers at the right valuation.

Exclusive member benefits
A valuable opportunity for our members: both Deryck and Rick will be sharing special offers exclusive to the SAIFAA community to directly support your practice management.
